Honey bee development and phenotypic plasticity

We use in vitro methodology to determine how early-life environments shape development and adult phenotypes in the eusocial honey bee Apis mellifera. Our work asks how variation generated during development contributes to caste-associated traits, life-history diversity, and the evolution of complex eusocial systems. We aim to uncover general principles governing phenotype formation in highly social organisms.
